Fixation of a Sliding Glass Door

One of the most popular features of many homes is the glass sliding doors. But at times they do malfunction. Few things must be taken into consideration to fit in a sliding door, which is not properly sliding to open and close.


The glass doors are needed to be fixed when it shows the signs of stickiness and uneasy sliding. These doors generally lead a way out to the patio or a pool located outdoors. The reason for the malfunction of the doors may be the rollers utilized for sliding needs a better cleaning and the track needs to be lubricated. Items like food, hair, mud deposited on the tracks of the sliding glass doors can resist the easy sliding of the doors. It's not only a frustration, but also lead to muscle strains and spinal problems.

A thorough examination on the door and rollers for debris and dirt is essential for fixing a sliding glass door. Essential requisites are:

  • Hammer

  • Flathead screwdriver

  • Wood block

  • Power drill

  • Mineral spirit

  • Cloth or rag

  • Silicone spray

Utilize a flat-head screwdriver to remove the roller adjustment screws found at the bottom of the glass door. Fix the screwdriver into the first hole and screw it counterclockwise for the purpose of retraction of the roller and to lower the slide door. Repeat the same process for the other hole too.

By using a power drill, unscrew the screws that are aided to save the head stop located at the top of the door opening. Now pull the top of the door towards inward and lift it from the track. Remove the commercial glass panels off and place it on a pair of sawhorses.

Using a flat head screw driver, take off the rollers from the bottom of the door and give a perfect clean with cloth soaked in mineral spirits. Gently lubricate the rollers with a layer silicone spray and then fix them back to its position. Carefully align the screw along with the access hole and then use a hammer to tap them into position with a small wooden block.
